The Magi were able to defeat the Demons later in the evening 64-61. The Magi were trailing at the half by nine points, but were able to make up the deficit with a big effort in the second half.
“We played really hard that second half,” Minot High head coach Dean Winczewski said. “It’s good to go on the road against the No. 1 team in our region and get a win.”
Winczewski said that Peyton Lamoureux scored the ball really well, scoring 16 points for the Magi, while Devin Mikell was dominant defensively for the Magi. Overall, Winczewski said they had multiple guys step up and make some key plays to carry Minot over the Demons.
Jaxon Gunville scored the last basket of the night for the Magi to put them up by three points with only seven seconds remaining in the game.
“We’re fortunate to make it out of Bismarck with a win,” Winczewski said.
The leading scorers for the Magi include Lamoureux, Chandler Albertson with 15 points, and Alex Schimke with 12.
The Magi travel to Bismarck Legacy Saturday to face the Sabers at 3:45 p.m.
