Tauros tumble in overtime

Alex Eisen/MDN Minotauros forward Sam Fuss (28) slides on the ice after getting tripped in a NAHL game Friday evening against the Austin Bruins.

In their first home game since Dec. 30, 2017, the Minot Minotauros (15-14-6) dropped a 4-3 overtime loss to the Austin Bruins (20-10-5) Friday evening at Maysa Arena.

The NAHL leader in points, Travis Kothenbeutel, scored the overtime winner for the Bruins.

Minot’s Rykr Cole scored the opening goal of the game on the power play with two and a half minutes left in the first period. Tauros captain Alex Adams added another goal 4:16 into the second period.

Three minutes later, the Bruins were on the board with a goal by Kothenbeutel.

David Raisanen responded to restore Minot’s two-goal lead, 3-1, with Minot native Colby Enns and Austin Koss picking up the assists.

Kothenbeutel, with his NAHL leading 30th assist, got Lane Krenzen a goal with 1:18 left in the second period. The Bruins then tied the game halfway through the third period with Josef Mysak netting his first goal of the season and he ultimately sent the game into overtime.

Kothenbeutel finished things off with an unassisted game-winning goal 32 seconds in overtime.

The Minotauros are back in action tonight at Maysa Arena with a rematch against the Bruins at 8:05 p.m.
