Majettes hockey rallies for sixth straight win
FARGO — Coming off a 10-0 win Friday night against Jamestown, the Minot High School girls hockey team kept its winning ways going Saturday afternoon with a come from behind 4-2 victory over Fargo Davies at the Scheels Arena.
The Majettes (11-7-0, 11-4-0 N.D. League) have now won six straight games and held off the Eagles (11-6-0, 9-4-0 N.D. League) from moving up and taking their fourth spot in the state standings.
Minot splits the regular season series between the two teams, as Fargo Davies blanked the Majettes, 5-0, on Dec. 9 at Maysa Arena. Despite getting outshot 32-17 in Saturday’s game, the Majettes came through when it counted.
MHS sophomore O’Malley Eslinger scored the only goal in the first period, assisted by Breanna Svangstu and Alyssa Aguirre. Fargo Davies responded with two goals in the second period by Kylie Schafer and Alexis Sampson.
Trailing by a goal, MHS junior Olivia Weisberg scored her 10th goal of the season on the power play to tie the game 6:26 into the third period. Seven minutes later, Weisberg shined once again with a game-winning unassisted goal.
Dessa Flom picked up a freebie empty netter with 32 seconds left for her team-leading 22nd goal of the season.
Freshman goaltender Amber Borkhuis made 30 saves in net for Minot.
The Majettes will have their winning streak tested again on Tuesday, as they travel to Bismarck to face the three-time defending state champion Blizzard. Bismarck is currently third in the state standings, behind Fargo North/South and West Fargo.
