Undefeated Velva coasts past Hazen 40-7

VELVA — The Region 3 regular season champion Velva Aggies put up 20 points in the first quarter against Hazen and never looked back in the first round of the Class 11A playoffs.

The No. 2-ranked Aggies (9-0) scored two touchdowns from Elijah Hackman and Hayden Lee in en route to a 40-7 victory over Hazen.

Hackman and Gage Florence both ran in touchdowns from inside 10 yards and a 67-yard pass from Nicholas Effertz to Lee had the Aggies up 20-0 after the first quarter.

Hazen scored its lone touchdown in the second quarter on a 3-yard run from Thomas Leintz. Payton Leintz kicked the extra point.

Velva got another touchdown pass to Lee and run from Hackman to go up 34-7. A 14-yard touchdown pass from Effertz to Ethan Schepp ended the scoring at 40-7.

The Aggies face Beulah next after they took out Bishop Ryan in the first round.
