MSU women’s soccer extends streak to six
WINONA, Minn. – The Minot State women’s soccer team extended their season-long winning streak to six matches after a 4-1 victory at Winona State on Sunday afternoon.
The win improves the Beavers to 9-4-1 (8-3 NSIC) on the season while the Warriors drop to 7-6-1 (6-4-1 NSIC).
Minot State took the lead first after Sofia Lewis scored her ninth goal of the season in the seventh minute, taking the ball 50 yards up the far sideline and finding the net.
The Beavers doubled their lead in the 22nd minute off a header from Andrea Franco. Franco scored her third goal of the season off a header in front of the goalie off the assist from Lewis.
Winona State trimmed the deficit in half after Darian Molter scored on the rebound from a deflected shot. Chase Rehm was credited with the assist.
Morgan Myers found the net for the second time this season in the 72nd minute off an assist from Ashley Franco on a corner kick.
Lewis capped the scoring for the match in the 76th minute, scoring her NSIC-leading 10th goal of the season.
Goalkeeper Erin Rafferty posted four saves in the win.
Minot State recorded a 17-7 advantage in shots over Winona State and 5-0 lead in corner kicks.
Yellow card was issued to Minot State’s Kayla Howard in the 86th minute.
Minot State returns to the pitch next weekend, as they host Concordia-St. Paul on Saturday at 1 p.m. and No. 13-ranked Minnesota State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
