MHS tennis gets first conference win

JAMESTOWN — The Minot High boys tennis team started its conference season opener on the right foot with a 6-3 victory over Jamestown Thursday on the road.

“We got a nice road win at Jamestown to begin conference play. I don’t think we played our best tennis, but it was a great team effort as we saw multiple guys step up and get wins for us throughout the lineup,” MHS coach Scott DeLorme said. “Mason and Zach Diehl and Charlie Wentz had strong showing in singles as all three won in straight sets. Rory Taney got a huge win at six singles coming back and winning a decisive third set to get us four big singles wins.”

DeLorme lauded the play of his lower doubles teams.

“On the doubles side, we started strong at one and two, but couldn’t close out at one doubles,” he said. “At three doubles, we started slow, but Zach Diehl and Gage Jaeger teamed together to battle all the way back from down 2-5 in set one to seal the victory with our 5th win.

“It was huge to see those two new to the varsity lineup battle through and find a way to turn things around in the middle of the match.”

MHS is back in action today with three different matches in Fargo.
