Ryan softball wraps up top seed for WDA tournament

The Bishop Ryan softball team closed out the regular-season Thursday with a twin bill split with Dickinson in Class A West Region action in Dickinson.

Ryan won the opener 9-3, while losing the nightcap 4-3.

As a result, the Lions win a tiebreaker over Dickinson and Bismarck Century to earn the top seed in next week’s West Region tournament in Jamestown.

In the opener, Ryan scored three runs in both the first and six innings to pull away for the six-run win.

Emma Pass had a triple and a pair of RBIs for Ryan, while Hailee Jundt also added a triple and a RBI.

Emma Garber pitched the complete game to earn the win for Ryan. She struckout five and walked two.

In the nightcap, Dickinson plated a run in the bottom of the seventh to claim the one-run win.

Annika Stewart suffered the loss for Ryan. She pitched 6 1/3 innings, with six strikeouts and eight walks.

Passa finished 1-for-3 at the plate for Ryan with a pair of RBIs.

Sarah Dobitz went 2-for-3 with a double and a RBI.

Amber Sickler pitched the complete game for Dickinson to earn the win.
