JAMESTOWN – A day after scoring only one run, the Bishop Ryan softball team’s offense responded with authority on Saturday.

The Lions punched their ticket to state by outslugging host Jamestown in a 12-10 West Region softball tournament state qualifier game. Ryan tallied 16 hits in the contest and swiped nine bases.

The Lions will be the No. 3 seed in the west and will face the No. 2 seed from the east when the state tournament begins on Thursday in Mandan.

After Jamestown opened the contest with two runs in the top of the first inning, Ryan responded with three runs in the bottom frame via a 2-RBI double from Sealy Rovig and an RBI double from Hailee Jundt. Jundt had a special performance at the plate, going 5-for-5 with two RBIs. The Lions piled on by putting up three-spots in the second and third innings, respectively.

Offensively, Rovig was 2-for-3 with two runs, four RBIs, a double and two stolen bases, while Shayla Elm was 2-for-5 with four runs and three stolen bases.

Annika Stewart picked up the win in the circle after tossing 4.1 innings, allowing two runs on three hits while racking up six strikeouts.
