Minot wrestling coach Racine receives prestigious award

Minot High wrestling coach Justin Racine helped lift a 24-year drought in bringing the Magicians their first state team championship since 1993 back in February at the Fargodome.

The crowning achievement didn’t go noticed. Racine was recently named the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Coach of the Year for the state of North Dakota.

With Racine at the helm, the Magi had an undefeated dual regular season (12-0), qualified 14 athletes for the state tournament and came away with one state champion – Brody Armstrong at 126 pounds. In total, 13 wrestlers placed at the state tournament.

Minot also won the West Region regular season championship for the first time since 1996.

Racine had already been named the North Dakota High School Activities Association (NDHSAA) Class A Coach of the Year, an award given at the conclusion of the state tournament.
