MHS softball advances to state qualifier after 7-3 victory against Mandan

JAMESTOWN – The Minot High softball team kept its season alive Friday with a 7-3 victory over Mandan in the West Region Tournament in Jamestown.

With the win, the Majettes (25-9) play Bismarck Century in a state qualifier at 11 a.m. today in Jamestown.

Minot opened the bottom of the first inning with two walks from Rylee Terrel and Marisa Andrysiak, with both eventually scoring after an RBI double from Riley Irmen and a throwing error from Mandan after Jenna Andrysiak reached on a fielder’s choice.

Jenna Andrysiak drove in a run for Minot in the bottom of the third with a sacrifice fly, then Terrel smacked a two-RBI single to third in the bottom of the fourth inning. Emily Melom added to the Majettes lead by driving in a run with a bunt single in the bottom of the fifth.

Offensively for MHS, Melom was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base, Terrel was 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBIs and a walk, Marisa Andrysiak was 1-for-3 and Riley Irmen was 2-for-3 with two RBI, a double and a walk.

Marisa Andrysiak earned the win in the circle for the Majettes after pitching seven innings and allowing three runs on six hits while striking out 10 batters.
