Tonini, Bennett lift Magi baseball to sweep of Century

Carson Tonini and Easton Bennett each played huge roles in the Minot High baseball team’s doubleheader sweep over Bismarck Century Thursday at Corbett Field.

The Magi won the first game 2-0 and took the second 6-1.

In Game 1, Tonini was in complete control on the mound, limiting the Patriots to just three hits in five innings of work. In addition to picking up the win, Tonini struck out three batters and only walked one. He also delivered a clutch two-out, two-RBI single in the bottom of the first inning to help his own cause on the mound.

In Game 2, Bennett did his part at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a run and two RBIs. Tonini was 1-for-4 in the contest with two RBIs and Kyler Stenberg was 1-for-3 with two runs scored.

Creighton Rudolph limited Century’s offense to just one run, pitching a complete seven-inning game by allowing three hits while striking out one batter. The Magi a run in the first, one in the fifth and four in the sixth to seal the victory.

MHS is back in action at the West Region Tournament on Thursday at Corbett Field.
