Rudolph named to D2CCA All- Central Region team

Minot State University junior Tyler Rudolph was named to the 2016-17 Division II Conference Commissioner’s Men’s Basketball All-Central Region team, the D2CCA announced Monday.

Rudolph becomes the first Minot State men’s basketball player to earn the honor since the Beavers moved to NCAA Division II. He was named to the five-player D2CCA All-Central Region Second Team.

“Tyler had a tremendous season for us,” said MSU head coach Matt Murken. “I’m very happy to see him receive some recognition for all of his hard work. He has been a huge part of the continued turnaround of our program.”

Rudolph averaged 21.1 points per game and 10.0 rebounds per outing, leading the Beavers in both categories. He also finished with 47 assists and 32 blocked shots. Rudolph led the NSIC in rebounds with 291 and double-doubles with 14, was second in field goals made (238) and third in points per game (21.1).

In 2016-17, Rudolph continued his assent up the Minot State all-time lists, moving into seventh place in scoring (1,357) and second place in rebounds (690).

Justin Pitts of Northwest Missouri State was named the Central Region’s Player of the Year and was the only repeat individual on the All-Central Region team. He was joined on the first team by Gage Davis, St. Cloud State University; Aaron Lien, Minnesota State University Moorhead; Braxton Reeves, East Central University and Jordan Spencer, Augustana University.

Joining Rudolph on the second team were Rob Davis, Fort Hays State; Derylton Hill, Arkansas-Monticello; Brady Skeens, Washburn and Anthony Virdure, Lincoln.

Sports information directors from NCAA Division II Central Region schools and conferences selected the D2CCA all-region team. The process concludes with All-American selections announced later in the month.

The team is sponsored by NCAA Division II Conference Commissioners for the second season. The Division II Conference Commissioners Association encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact Division II intercollegiate athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
