ORCS steamrolls South Prairie to open District 12 play

Garrick Hodge/MDN Our Redeemer's guard Tayten Mau (1) puts up a shot during the District 12 boys tournament Friday at the Minot Municipal Auditorium.

Our Redeemer’s Christian School boys basketball coach Jeremy Feller couldn’t have been happier with his team’s performance Friday.

The Knights were in control of their District 12 opener from tipoff, dismantling South Prairie 73-37 at the Minot Auditorium.

“We had good energy from the start,” Feller said. “We talked at halftime about bringing our energy up even more, because it’s tournament time. We were happy to get our key players some rest before a big day (today).”

No. 1 ORCS took a 18-8 lead on the No. 8 Royals after the first quarter, then extended the advantage to 37-14 at halftime.

“We talked about finding a level of focus no matter what the score says,” Feller said. “Defensively I thought they played hard no matter what and offensively we can make adjustments. Either way, we have to be ready to go today.”

Tayten Mau led the Knights with 19 points, while Jayden Wetzel chipped in 12. Hunter Fiedler had 18 points for South Prairie, while Cade Korslien scored 13.

With the win, ORCS faces No. 4 Lewis and Clark Berthold at 6 p.m. at the Minot Auditorium. In the regular season matchup between the two schools on Feb. 3 in Minot, Berthold defeated ORCS 68-54.

“Berthold brings a lot of energy and plays a fast-paced game,” Feller said. “I think we’ll be more ready for that this time. We have to prepare for that and see what happens.”
