Goatending record set, Minotauros win 4-3 in OT
CLOQUET, Minn. — The Minot Minotauros had an eventful Saturday night in Minnesota, which ended with a 4-3 overtime winner for Minotauros’ Nate Pionk to claim another extra time victory over the Minnesota Wilderness in back to back nights.
Minotauros’ goaltender Austin Park also set a new team record for the most consecutive minutes without giving up a goal at 139:55. His shutout streak was broken up by Wilderness’ Luke Dow 3:48 into the contest to tie the game at 1-1. Minot had struck first just two minutes in with a power play goal from Luke Davision, with assists going to Reid Stefanson and Alex Adams.
Three minutes after the game-tying goal, the Wilderness took a 2-1 lead in the first period with a tally from Zach Mills.
A goal by Adams in the second period and one for Austin Dollimer 6:35 into the third period helped the Minotauros restore their lead, 3-2.
With 52 seconds remaining, however, Wilderness’ Louis Roehl found the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season and sent the game into overtime.
After needing a shootout Friday night to beat the Wilderness 1-0, Pionk prevented the contest from going to the skills contest yet again with the game-winner 1:52 into the extra frame.
The Minotauros return to Maysa Arena next weekend for a pair of games against the Austin Bruins on Friday and Saturday.
