Beaver wrestling falls 25-10 to UMary
The Minot State University wrestling team was looking forward to having a rematch with the University of Mary on Sunday.
The Beavers fell 20-18 on Dec. 16 in Bismarck, but hoped to turn things around on their home mats at the MSU Dome.
However, MSU couldn’t get things going the second time around against the University of Mary, ultimately losing 25-10.
MSU coach Evan Forde was unimpressed with his team’s performance as they dropped to 2-6 (0-3 NSIC) on the season.
“I thought the University of Mary came ready to wrestle and we didn’t,” Forde said in a press release. “It was an uninspired effort. We’re going to have to do some evaluating after this one. We didn’t look like ourselves today.”
There were bright spots for the Beavers, however, as Minot native Cody Haugen, Carlos Toledano and Keegan Berry each won their individual weight classes, with Berry winning by major decision.
Haugen and Toledano each earned their 12th win of the season, tying Jered Sublet for the team high in wins. Toledano currently sports the best record for MSU at 12-5.
“We always know we’re going to get a good effort from Carlos and Cody,” Forde said. “I didn’t think they wrestled their best match tonight, but they got their wins. We know we’ll get solid efforts from them every time out.”
Minot State will compete again next week at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the University of Regina.
