Majettes’ tennis team splits 2 matches in Fargo

FARGO – Minot High’s girls tennis team opened a busy weekend with a split of two matches Friday in Fargo.

The Majettes defeated Fargo North 5-0 and lost to Fargo Davies 4-1.

“We started the day with a nice 5-0 win over Fargo North,” Minot coach Scott DeLorme said. “We got a strong effort from all three of our singles players with (sophomore) Kali Askvig, (freshman) Raquel Egge, and (junior) Taylor Mattson all winning in straight sets.”

DeLorme says he is seeing improved play out of all of his players, especially Askvig.

“Kali is starting to figure some things out in singles and she is playing much smarter points,” he said.

In the loss to Fargo Davies, the Majettes were battling the adverse weather from the get-go.

“Right at the time this match started, the winds picked up to about 30 miles per hour,” DeLorme said. “So it was a battle of the elements by both teams.”

Egge won in straight sets in the No. 2 singles match to claim Minot’s lone win of the day.

DeLorme says, however, his team was close in a few other matches.

“We had chances at multiple spots against one of the better teams in the East,” he said.

Minot plays at West Fargo this morning at 9 a.m.
