Majettes fall to Coyotes
Freshman Raquel Egge has burst onto the scene for Minot High’s girls tennis team this season.
She hasn’t lost a match this year and has only fallen in one set.
She got bumped up to No. 2 singles – because of an illness to No. 1 singles player, junior, Evie Reynolds – in a dual against Williston on Tuesday and did what she’s done all year.
“Raquel Egge continues to be a bright spot as she got a straight-set win,” Minot coach Scott DeLorme said.
Unfortunately, she was the only Majette to earn a singles victory as the Coyotes topped Minot 7-2.
Egge kept up her winning ways in the No. 2 singles as she and sophomore Alyssa Henson won in two sets.
“Our doubles were much more competitive and we got a nice win from Egge and Henson.”
Williston earned all of its wins via straight sets.
Minot travels to Fargo North and Fargo Davies on Friday.
5 Tauros selected in USHL draft
Minot Minotauros players Matt Jennings, Austin Martinsen, Sam Fuss, Eric Dop and Alex Adams were all selected in the United States Hockey League’s phase two draft on Tuesday.
Jennings went in the third round to Green Bay. Martinsen and Dop were both selected by Sioux Falls in the sixth round. Sam Fuss went in the seventh round to Cedar Rapids and Alex Adams went in the 12th to Madison.
Green Bay earned the Eastern Conference’s No. 2 seed in this past year’s USHL playoffs. Sioux Falls was the fourth and final playoff seed out of the Western Conference. Cedar Rapids earned the top overall seed in the Eastern Conference while Madison didn’t qualify to the playoffs.
Minot High’s Leier inks with Wolves
Former Minot High wrestler Matthew Leier signed to continue his wrestling career at Northern State on Tuesday.
Leier – one of the team captains this past season – placed second as an individual (126-pounder) at the state wrestling tournament this past February in Fargo.
He also helped the Magicians place third in the dual portion of the state tournament – a feat Minot hasn’t accomplished since 2003.
The Wolves finished 1-7 in Northern Sun Intercollgiate Conference play last season with their lone win coming over Minot State.
