Early leads not enough for MSU
DULUTH, Minn. – Minot State’s baseball team got off to two quick starts in a doubleheader against Minnesota Duluth on Sunday.
Unfortunately, the Beavers couldn’t hang on to either advantage as the Bulldogs earned a sweep with 9-3 and 12-5 wins.
In the opener, MSU scored two runs on a fielding error and scored the third run on a double by Paul Vogelsang. Vogelsang was the only Beaver to log multiple hits in Game 1.
UMD answered with two runs in its half of the first on a two-run jack by Kyle Comer.
Comer rocked a grand slam in the fourth and the Bulldogs added three more in the sixth en route to the win.
In the nightcap, MSU’s Michael Borst singled in the first inning to bring in the first two runs of the day. In the fourth and ninth innings, Borst hit two solo home runs, his third and fourth dingers of the weekend and fifth in the last five games.
The Bulldogs answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first and added three, three-spots in the third, seventh and eighth innings, respectively.
Minot State finishes out its season with six home games, starting on Wednesday against Minnesota Crookston.
