MSU begins spring drills

Minot State football began the process of rebounding from a one-win season in 2015 as spring football started on Wednesday.

The Beavers have 15 practices over the next month, culminating in its annual spring game Saturday, April 16 at Herb Parker Stadium.

“We had a great first quarter in our January and February off-season conditioning period and now we are on to the second quarter, which of course is spring ball, of our 2016 football life,” coach Tyler Hughes said. “We’ve had a number of guys make big improvements this off-season and I’m excited to see them in action for spring ball. We’ve also added a number of new coaches, so it will be great to work with them on the field. Everyone is very optimistic right now and looking forward to taking our next positive step.”

MSU practices Thursday and Friday this week and will hold Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday practices next week. The final practice next week, April 2, will be the team’s first scrimmage. beginning at 8:30 a.m.

The Beavers plan to have a scrimmage Saturday, April 9 starting at 8:30 a.m. as well and the annual spring game will take place the following Saturday, giving fans three opportunities to watch the 2016 team.

The Beavers return 33 letterwinners and 15 starters, including nine on offense from last season’s team. MSU is scheduled to start the 2016 season at home with Minnesota State-Mankato Thursday, Sept. 1 at 6 p.m. at The Herb.
