Now that a peer-reviewed study has revealed the lack of short-term environmental benefits in residue-based biofuels, should corn subsidies be lessened?

  1. Yes
  2. No
  3. Not for other uses

If I feel biofuels are helping our Mother Earth....that is all that matters, and the subsidies should continue....

April 18, 2014 Minot Daily News "Sen. John Hoeven and a host of other members of Congress are asking the Department of Agriculture, Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection?Agency" to stop my ill-conceived attempt at diverting taxpayer monies to an industry incapable of producing positive results for the consumer.

However, it does seem to have a positive effect on corn growers, scuttled unprofitable ethanol plants with tremendous inflationary scenarios for household grocery buyers. And that little incidental concerning food to the poor can be chalked up to the usual standard of doing business.....As usual.

The "poor" don't care about the price of food, just another swipe of the EBT card. Food prices up? Just raise benefits, problem solved

as long as EBT welfare dollars come out of the Dept of AG budget instead of the Dept of Health and Human Services budgets....I am feeling happy...

Speaking of swiping the old EBT card . . .

Federal funding makes up over 40% of North Dakota's budget.

So once again -- if you're sick of welfare, GET OFF OF IT, MOOCHER.

Ugh, food stamps!!! I hate walmart, the people make me leave there angry. So I switched, now I avoid walmart and go to target. However, now I can't escape it, the grocery store is filled with them too! Can't even leave it at that, the sista in front of me at loaf and jug today, who looked as if she just gone tanning on her porch in holiday village ... She got herself some EBT sodas and chips. Water and crackers would have done her better in the end. And it would have been cheaper on us taxpayers.*****mooches.

Another believer of Republican instilled beliefs.....That the 12% really have a voice!

Guess the other 88% will continue to pay whatever while they singeth the whistle while you work tune.....

Why so many have no concept of reality is beyond me!

Just a man (maybe)...I live paycheck to paycheck. Some days my kids and I eat*****for dinner. But we make it and are happy and healthy. And we are not part of the huge 46.5 million on food stamps!! I'm responsible to feed my family, not anyone else. Blows my mind how you and many others don't understand that concept. That piece of reality!!

The poor don't need to be using their food stamps on soda and chips from the gas station.

Nice disguise sickworld!

You don't represent anyone personally, you don't speak the truth and you shame those who actually are in need!

Have you noticed that these beer belt bigots claim to hate non-Whites, yet they can't stop talking about them, staring at them -- following them into gas stations?

I couldn't tell you what I had purchased for myself in a convenience store last week -- let alone recount what some total stranger was buying.

The economy is recovering. I think its time republicans take the white house so they can wreck it again. Same as this useless fuel that causes decreased gas milage. Anyone who's smart knows that it takes more to produce ethanol than what you get out. May make sense in republican brains, but not normal brains

Landslide, that's why It is sad to say, but real men supporting families are diminishing! Why try hard and work when you can get it for free! Heck they don't even have to have a family, just no job and they get free food! Now a days it Definitely should be a first dating question, making sure the man is not on any government assistance but rather works hard and supports himself! How sad!! Yeah, just a man, you are right for once. I only represent myself! The chick in the store was in "no need" of food stamp gas station pop and chips! Animal, couldn't run! Haha, I'm the first to say i do not like liberal winey mooches and feel the president should be unbiased! I would be called all kinds of names from non judgers because I judge people! It helps me steer clear of certain types.

Pj, you could do one if two things... Either a) lay off the pot and you might remember, or b) check your food stamp balance receipts! That might jog your memory!!

"Anyone who's smart knows that it takes more to produce ethanol than what you get out."

So why are we subsidizing, promoting, mandating this substance again? Because it "feels" good, like Jack said. No rational answer need apply.

Because some politicians in DC decided that "ethanol is good and gasoline is bad," the small engine industry has been having to explain to its customers that ethanol is damaging to their lawn mowers, weed trimmers or chain saws.

"Buy the premium gas, without the ethanol! Save your small engine!"
