Do you get the impression that The Associated Press is out to smear the Air Force with its overblown running dossier of "missteps" and "blunders' involving nuclear weapons?

willgrr, I thought that perhaps you could be reasonable or willing to approach the topic from a different angle than the usual (vulgar, spurious, offended, hyper). I was wrong.

It's a l-a-r-g-e stretch to say that I "agree" with calling children the b-word. Try thinking outside your mean little box for once. I said there's been history with the word, besides the vulgar/demeaning aspects.

That's all. No reason for any more hysteria, unless it comes from your predictable quarter.

willgrr, that particular b word has been a part of English and American history for hundreds of years.

Shakespeare wrote about the exploits and pitfalls of the Earl of Gloucester's illegitimate son, Edmund, in King Lear.

In Dickens' story, Oliver Twist was an illegitimate son being kept from his rightful inheritance by the machinations of his older brother. The happy ending in that story was that "Monks" had to give way to the father's will for both the sons, the legitimate and illegitimate.

This particular word has a lot of history to it, both good and bad. It's not just a vulgarity, as many people might intend it to be.

Veritas, that urbandictionary is just rolling in modern absurdity, isn't it?

You go tell those people to stop what they're doing right now.

So how is that archaic term used today? Check out urbandictionary for enlightenment.

This is the "cleanest" I could find...

1. A way to insult another person in a vulgar way.

2. A child born without wed parents.

"...who received an agree vote by yourself on both his posts on this issue..."

Veritas, you're making those broad accusations again. Does a post dealing with history usually affect you this way?

I might just post about history of women's suffrage over the years. Or history of our nation's 14th Amendment. Or history of various other incivilities (or "absurdities" as you like to call them) that societies have dealt to its members.

Do posts of history bother you that much?

wow

"Whats the term for a child concieved out of wedlock Garr?"

I'll help you guys out: legally, the child is considered an illegitimate or non-marital child.

And things have changed over the years: "A majority of states now subscribe to the theory that a child born of any union that has the characteristics of a formal marriage relationship is entitled to legitimate status." I'd guess that to mean common-law relationships too.

As society evolves, laws evolve as well. I'll leave it to others to debate whether that's good or bad.
