According to a recent poll, fewer than half of Americans say the country has made substantial progress in the past 50 years toward racial equality. What do you think?

  1. Substantial progress made
  2. Progress less than substantial

1. little white baby shot to death by young black male in Georgia. 2.White boy beaten severely by 3 young black male on a school bus and on film. 3.Aussie baseball player shot in the back by young black male and his two friends, because they were bored. 4.Elderly white WW11 vet beaten to death by 2 young black males Spokane WA.

Why hasn't Holder yet instituted Federal Civil Rights investigation in any of these cases, like he did to Zimmerman a few days after his arrest? Not a peep from Obama.

Actually leftie, I was more referencing the NAACP that is for some reason allowed to be a racist organization but never receives any accusations of being a racist organization. This goes for the blank panthers as well standing at the doors of polling places. I do not agree with the white supremacist groups out there but can you REALLY tell me the difference?

"When was there an open season on black youths?"

Um . . . It's been going on for about two centuries.

I don't expect the #1 beer guzzling champs to also be #1 in education -- but surely you people know some basic American history.

I was born as white as people come, but Martin Luther King said it best; "Judge not by the color of one's skin but by the content of their character." Enough said!!

MattRothchild In my case I have been just an observer in the past but I felt like I needed to be vocal on some of these issues.

WorriedAmerican I do remember those groups and I do know they still exist but I also know that is not what being referenced by open season on black youths......it was regarding T Martin and you know it too. Comparing the Martin/Zimerman case to the acts of the KKK or racist group is a stretch.

When was there an open season on black youths??? If you are talking T Martin you are bezerk!!! I hate to see anybody killed for any reason but Zimerman was well within his rights to do what he did......after all Trayvon was bashing his skull into the pavement.

As long as there is ignorance there will be racism.

"White people are being killed by blacks just for fun???"

"When you basically declare open season on Black youths what did you expect?... Cookies????"

What I'd like to see is more individual responsibility for one's own deeds or misdeeds and less groupings of people by race, creed, political party, etc.

"I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."

Jeez, how to even answer that poll...

I think that most of the country is way too immature and far too unwilling to step back and take a deep breath to discuss this--or many other topics for that matter--in anything resembling a ration or level-headed manner.

Want a fun piece of trivia? We talk about how we cannot believe that racism still exists "this day and age". Yet, at least one source tells us that it's with us and always shall be...would you believe, it's the Bible?

I'm pretty sure the most racism ever showed in this state was long ago between the Germans and Norwegians. It was said back then either party would rather have black, native or any race except the dreaded German or Norwegian next door.

Racism is a thing of the past folks....unless you are talking about whites being victims of racism, then it is at a all time high. White people are being killed by blacks just for fun???

Wake up america!!!!

Whatever marginal progress we've made -- has come in spite of the best efforts of Republicans to "take America back."

This shamelessly partisan newspaper, and the Tea Party talking points it daily presents, is a large part of why this country has not been able to heal itself of the sickness and psychosis commonly called "racism."
