In another controversial decision, N.D.'s House on Friday killed a bill aimed at strengthening penalties for drunken driving. So what would you say to the legislators collectively at this point in the session?

  1. Great job
  2. Eh
  3. What are you thinking?
  4. You stink

"So what would you say to the legislators collectively at this point in the session?"

As the state is already responsible for penalizing drunk driving, I'd like to see those penalties strengthened. Teeth in the laws, to perhaps deter repeating the undesirable behavior. If you feel the same, contact your legislators.

What a shocking comment, gusty. The penchant for changing the subject certainly goes to the right especially when they don't want to admit that their position is weak or wrong. You have been a part of that quite often, gusty.

icart, you need to listen to the discussions about the bills in stead of taking the sound bites and twisting in the wind. There is no discourse with you, only uneducated retorts. In your medical career I am sure you have stuck a needle into a tiny premie. There was no reaction was there? (sarcasm)

So disgust your saying that my cousin who lost both of his hands in a work related accident shouldn't be getting WC, because he can't "FEEL PAIN"...Even more recently, the guy in the oil field who was near the truck that exploded, can't "FEEL PAIN", but you are SO POSITIVE that goo..Yup, that can "FEEL PAIN"!! I have 1 question to ask you ..."Have you asked the goo if it feels pain?" Oh yeah, that's right...YOU CAN'T!! Are there people who take advantage of the system...SURE there are, You and I both have seen it. Are there people who take advantage of most systems..SURE there are. But, it's such a small percentage, to most north dakotians, should our "representatives" totally screw over all the rest of the people, because of a few???

I say that we should slap a $5000 fine and make them blow twice a day for 2 years. If they fail, then throw them in the slammer for 180 days. Then go through it all again for real this time. No 2nd chances. Everyone just needs to give a chit!

Lets pass another law, lets pass laws against everything!!I heard someone the otherday say that the mother bought and paid for the guns that were used at the school shooting, so lets pass a law against mothers, lets make motherhood a felony and throw them all in jail, I'm sure that will solve everything!! Good grief you people think just a little!!

icart, if you really do work in the medical field, then you know how many abuse the WC system with 'back pain'. I worked in the medical field babe, and saw it day after day. The hypocrisy is you not caring about the pain the fetus feels vs caring about pain post fetal pain as up call it.

The financial elite are very interested in North Dakota, its land, its oil, its coal, its agriculture, everything. There is a move afoot to have the Bank of North Dakota declared an illegal state-owned entity because it creates unfair competition in the commercial banking lending world.

The greedy, dirty, filthy, money-grubbing criminal banksters want it all and will do anything to get it. Call it what it really is: extortion and fraud.

Those are the drunk with power and money drunken drivers the State of ND needs to jail.

google TPP, or Trans-Pacific Partnership

Of course, Obama is all for it.

icart68, your days on WC are numbered! Better go look for a job! She gets a bit luny when she thinks about working. Now, back to the topic. The legislators and the law enforcement bailed on this. But, JAIL does not hinder driving and drinking. Law enforcement doesn't want to take time to put on boots on all the vehicles. Hire tow companies or independent contractors to do it. And, put them on ALLL vehicles. When I bring that up, people start complaining. NO ONE wants serious repercussions for driving while drinking.

To be fair, there are North Dakotans who have been elected to the legislature that actually do their work and their homework. I can't be cynically critical of them all.

It's a lot of fun to poke fun at the drunken fools though. They asked for it.

Don't drink and drive.

And as you guessed it, it passed with the support of Senator Sitte, who fights to protect "fetal" pain but not "post-fetal" pain. Such hypocrisy.

VOTE THEM OUT!!!! Find out who are your legislatures and how they voted for each bill - Not just because there's an "R" behind their name!! Learn whose "representing" you from the abortion bill, to the drunk driving bill...to even this one -

HB 1163 is informally known as the pain bill, not only because it deals with the circumstances under which pain is compensable as a work-related injury, but also apparently due to the pain it will inflict on injured workers and their families. While the legislation is complex, here’s the bumper sticker description: It would reclassify pain as a “symptom,” and not a “substantial worsening” or “acceleration” of a worker’s pre-existing condition... The bill is “an affront to medical science” and “insults hardworking men and women who live North Dakota’s work ethic every day.” ... It is an absolute shame, that the bill passed the Senate 27-19 And as you guessed it, it passed with the support of Senator Sitte, who fights to pr

I was hit and my van was destroyed by a drunk driver with no insurance, no license and he fled the scene after the accident. This was his second drunk driving offense and if I hadn't turned by van just so... I would have been killed or seriously injured. He got 5 days with 2 days served and was out again driving around. He was also fined almost 1000.00. He failed to pay his fine and they gave him 30 days in jail with 2 days served. How is failing to pay more serious than the act? I'm glad he's in jail, however.

It will take more than a few very tragic cases of DUI to change things...not until it strikes down a high ranking legislatures family will anything be done with ND's lenient DUI laws....the liquor industry and bar owners are a great source of revenue and a powerful lobby...they definitely don't want pot legalized either.
