Should the full Legislature approve the proposed measure that would allow alcohol sales on Sundays in N.D. to begin at 10 a.m. instead of noon?

If they would open retail stores at 10am on Sunday's...then I could maybe support this. But when I can't even go to a Target at 10am on Sunday to shop, then I definately don't think people should be able to go hang at a bar and start drinking. If our laws are going to prevent shopping earlier on Sundays, then the same should apply to bars.

To answer animal's question, the sponsor is Republican Randy Boehning from District 27 which is the area of south Fargo right along the Minnesota border. The co-sponsors are Maragos and Streyle from Minot and Senator Nelson from District 21 which is north of Randy's district and east of I29 to the Minn border. All we need to do is write and call our local representatives and let them know how we feel about this bill.

The point of overtime is to both give employers an incentive to work their staff a reasonable amount of time (40 hours) each week, and to recompense people (who either choose to or are forced to work extra hours) for their lost free time. Of course, in an economic situation where fewer and fewer folk have the luxury of full-time employment, many have to split 60 or 70-plus hours each week between two jobs, without overtime or benefits. Anyway, overtime's nothing to do with religious days or weekends.

Not necessarily. Depending on your job, if you make less than $23,600 or $455 a week then you aren't exempt from overtime pay under the Fair Labor Standards Act. I think it's generally advised that if you're salaried and regularly work more than 40 hours a week, you should check and see if you're eligible for additional wages.

Why doesn't the legislature work on Sundays?

They get Sundays off. The legislature is just wanting to start drinking earlier on Sunday mornings and they should.

Monday through Saturday isn't enough time to get the drinking done that they are obviously doing all day long.

10 am on Sunday mornings is about the right time of day to start drinking and you can get a head start for Monday's drinking fest.

It'll be a better world.
