The North Dakota Highway Patrol has identified the victim of a fatal crash near Rugby Wednesday as Seth Nelson, 20, of Bottineau.
According to the Patrol, Nelson was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Impala north on North Dakota Highway 3, about 11 miles north of Rugby, when his vehicle struck a northbound Schwan Food Company truck when it started slowing to turn left to a customer's home on 77th Street NE, just over a hill. Nelson's vehicle struck the truck, which was driven by Darek Falcon, 34, of Belcourt, on the right rear. The Impala rotated counterclockwise, coming to rest on the shoulder of Highway 3 facing southwest. The truck was pushed up about three feet, coming to rest in the middle of Highway 3. Falcon moved the truck off the roadway. Nelson's Impala started on fire, whcih was extinguished by the Rugby Rural Fire Department. Nelson, who was not wearing his seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Falcon, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken by ambulance to Heart of America Hospital in Rugby for treatment.
The accident happened at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
