Doris Larshus

Doris Larshus, 82, Bismarck, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2014, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck.

Doris was born Nov. 1, 1931, in Gardena, to Ted and Alice (Nehring) Hoff. She was raised on the family farm near Gardena and graduated from Gardena High School. Doris was very competitive and enjoyed participating in many sports, especially basketball.

She married Leonard Larshus on July 6, 1958. They lived in Bisbee and Stanley before moving to Bismarck in 1972. While raising their four children kept Doris busy, she and Leonard enjoyed square dancing, gardening and camping. After Leonard's retirement, they spent many winters in Arizona and traveling. One of their favorite trips was a tour of China. She enjoyed volunteering through the Meals on Wheels and at First Presbyterian Church. Doris especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and making their favorite meals.

She is survived by: her two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Cathy Larshus, Bismarck, and Jay and Beth Larshus, Johnson City, Tenn.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Lex Silbernagel, Fargo, and Karla and RJ Theis, Minot; six grandchildren, Jim and Liz Silbernagel, Abby and Micah Larshus and Morgan and Jacob Theis; three sisters, Irene Johnson, Fargo, Ilene Walden, Everett, Wash., and Betty Herbel, Bottineau.

Doris was preceded in death by: her husband of 43 years, Leonard; her parents; and her brother, Orville Hoff.

The family gratefully thanks Valley View Heights Assisted Living and Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center for the love and care shown Doris while she was a resident at each facility.

Services will be held: Saturday, Sept. 6, at 1 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Dr. Matthew Zuehlke officiating.

Burial will be held: at Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck.

Cremation has taken place.

Memorials may be given to Meals on Wheels.

Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, is entrusted with arrangements.
