Lester Lautenschlager, 83, Mohall, formerly of Berthold, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014, at the Good Samaritan Society in Mohall.

Lester LeRoy Paul Lautenschlager was born July 15, 1931, a son of Lester and Hildegarde (Rubbelke) Lautenschlager, on the family farm near Berthold. He was raised and educated in Berthold, graduating from Berthold High School in 1949.

Lester was united in marriage to Fay Boucher on Oct. 26, 1957, at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Minot. The couple made their home in Des Lacs, where Lester continued to farm in the Berthold area. In 1971, the family moved to the Lautenschlager farm near Berthold, where they raised their family, farmed and ranched.

Lester's faith was very important to him and he was a very active member of the St. Ann's Catholic Church in Berthold where he served as a lector, Eucharistic minister, prepared the altar for Mass, worked Marriage Encounter weekends, and served on the church council. For 14 years, Lester was active in the St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, in Des Lacs. He was president of the Diocesan Council under Bishop Kinney. He was also an honorary Knights of Columbus member.

Lester was also active within the community of Berthold, serving on the Berthold School Board for nine years, as president of the Berthold Fire District Board for 17 years, on the Berthold Township Board for 31 years, serving as clerk and treasurer, a volunteer for the Berthold Ambulance for 19 years and was a Berthold Lions Club member of many years. Lester also was on the Farmers Union Board. He collected owl jewelry and volunteered at the Norsk Hostfest for many years.

Lester is survived by: Wife of 56 years, Fay, Berthold; children, Catherine (David) Shelkey, Berthold, Elizabeth (Roger) Buggert, Alexandria, Minn., Joseph (Lorna) Lautenschlager, Berthold, Mary (Mitch) Depute, Melrose, Minn., Paula (John) Schoorl, Quartz Hill, Calif., Michael (Ginger) Lautenschlager, Berthold, Ann Marie (Michael) Dittmer, Garden Plains, Kan., and Timothy (Stacy) Lautenschlager, Kenmare; 24 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren: siblings, Genovieve Hall, Berthold, Eugene Lautenschlager, Grand Forks, Lyle (Karen) Lautenschlager, Hilltop, Texas, Tom (Joanne) Lautenschlager, Minot, Eileen (Andy) Anderson, Mossy Rock, Wash., Doris (Jim) Goettle, Donnybrook, Dan (Jean) Lautenschlager, Minot, and Daryl (Peggy) Lautenschlager, of Byron, Minn.; two brothers-in-law, Chuck Boucher, Lake Wales, Fla., and John Boucher, Minot. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Lester was preceded in death by: his parents Lester and Hildegarde; grandparents; an infant brother Timothy; sisters-in-law, Shirley Boucher, Phyllis Boucher and Sally Lautenschlager; brother-in-law, Clarence Hall; and several aunts and uncles.

Mass of Christian Burial: Saturday, Aug. 30, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Berthold.

Burial: Wildrose Cemetery, Berthold.

Vigil prayer service: Friday, Aug. 29, at 7 p.m. at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Berthold.

Visitation: There will be no reviewal, however, friends may sign a guest register on Friday, Aug. 29, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, and from 5 to 7 p.m. at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Berthold.
