Donald Braton died on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014 at ClayCo Care Center in Barnesville, Minn., with his loving family at his side.
Donald Delos Braton was born on Oct. 12, 1932, to Walter E. and Marie (Garrison) Braton in Prairie View Township near Barnesville. He attended country school and graduated in 1950 from Barnesville High School. He entered the U.S. Army in January 1953 and served his country until January 1955. After returning home, he returned to the family farm where he continued the family legacy of farming in Prairie View Township, which included dairy and grain.
Donald was married to Sally Wibe on Oct. 12, 1955, at Our Saviors Church in Barnesville. They made their home a mile from where he grew up and returned to the original family farm in 1958.
He was a member of St. James United Church of Christ in Barnesville, where he served on various boards. He also served on the Prairie View Township Board, was a lifetime member of the American Legion, the Barnesville Lions and the VFW in Fergus Falls, Minn. He volunteered with Meals on Wheels, commodities distribution, and worked with Helpers Inc. Don and Sally wintered in Arizona for 10 years and also liked to travel.
Don is survived by: his wife, Sally; six children: Janet (Jim) Clifford, Minot, Jerry (Mary) Braton, Aitkin, Minn., Mark (Hollie) Braton, Pelican Rapids, Minn., Susie (Bruce) Bowen, Barnesville, Jo (Kelly) Boyd, of Buffalo, N.D., and Bill (Kathy) Braton, Barnesville; 18 grandchildren: Jed and Joel Clifford, Paul (Cori) Braton, Anne Braton and Jack Braton, Brian (Shannon) Braton, Josh (Shanna) Braton, Hope Braton, Heather (Ryan) Hough, Katie (James) Stock, Callie, Charlie, Jon, Angie and Laura Bowen, Shelby (fiancee Matt Basner) Boyd, Justin Braton and Matthew Ouellette; and three great-grandchildren: Zoie and Coye Braton and Logan Stock. He is also survived by one sister, Darlene (DuWayne) Hines of Barnesville; sisters-in-law, Eunice Hubrig, Minot, and LaVonne Wibe, San Diego; brother-in-law, Terry (LouAnn) Wibe, Wentzville, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by: his parents; and one brother, Doyle Braton.
Funeral services will be: Saturday, Aug. 30, at 2 p.m. at St. James UCC, in Barnesville, with Pastor Wendy Ward officiating.
Burial, with military honors, will follow in Prairie View Cemetery.
Visitation will be: Today, Friday, Aug. 29, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Dobmeier Funeral Home in Barnesville with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the funeral service in the church.
