It's the most wonderful time of the year: football season.
On Tuesday night, 40 teams around the state kicked off the 2014 prep football season. Ten of the 20 games included schools in The Minot Daily News' coverage area.
Locally, Stanley-Powers Lake and Williams County opened their seasons at Herb Parker Stadium. The Class A Firestorm reeled off the first 12 points, then held off the Class AA Blue Jays for a 12-6 victory.
Stanley-Powers Lake sophomore tight end Dalton Brown, right, hauls in a deep touchdown pass ahead of Williams County’s Tanner Reinholdt on Tuesday at Herb Parker Stadium.
Week 1 continues on Thursday evening, when Velva hosts Bishop Ryan in the second annual Copper Bowl. Class AAA squads begin games on Friday, while Saturday is chock-full with a bevy of 9-man games.
