Sept. 15, 1918-Aug. 9, 2014

Evelyn May Pepple, Fessenden, passed away at St. Aloisius Medical Center, in Harvey, on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014.

Evelyn was born on the family farm near Tama, Iowa, on Sept. 15, 1918. She was the eldest of the eight children of William and Irene (Peters) Dolezal. She was reared in the Tama area and graduated from high school there in 1937. Upon graduating, Evelyn moved to Los Angeles. Shortly after that her aunt Dorothy brought Evelyn to her home in Lodi, Calif. Evelyn then attended Ocean Pacific University in nearby Stockton, Calif., and worked while she was attending the university.

Evelyn met George "Milton" Pepple, of Lodi, while they were both attending Ocean Pacific University in Stockton. They were united in marriage on April 14, 1939, in Reno, Nev. Shortly thereafter they moved to the Pepple farmstead in West Norway Township, near Fessenden. Both Evelyn and Milton worked hard to make their farming operation very successful. Evelyn often reminisced about the cook car, and housing and feeding the work crews. She was well known for the delicious loaves of bread she baked nearly every day. In the mid-1950s Evelyn, Milton and their children moved into Fessenden. Milton commuted to the farm while Evelyn was a homemaker. In the 1970s and the 1980s they traveled around the U.S and Canada, often with grandchildren, and leased a casita in Mexico where Milton enjoyed hunting with his pals from California and Texas. Evelyn and Milton loved to collect semi-precious rocks and became very involved in lapidary as a hobby.

Milton passed away on Aug. 7, 2000. In 2005, Evelyn entered the nursing home in Harvey. In 2007, she moved to Heritage House, an assisted living center, in New Rockford. After suffering a massive stroke in June 2009, she moved into the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford. In August 2010, Evelyn moved back to the nursing home in Harvey where she resided until she passed away.

Evelyn is survived by: her son, George William (Lois) Pepple, Ponca City, Okla.; daughter, Gretchen Joy Pepple (Jon) Bertsch, Fessenden; granddaughter, Jessica Ann (Charles) Mason-Hill; four grandsons, Karl David (Dr. Kathryn) Pepple, Seattle, Andrew Pepple Rice, of Thompson, Jonathan Allen Rice, Fargo, and Benjamin Michael Bertsch, at home in Fessenden; sisters, Madolyn Burton, Red Bluff, Calif., and June Fulmer, Toledo, Iowa; brothers, Billy Dolezal, Tucson, Ariz., David (Corrine) Dolezal, Dallas, Iowa, and Harold (Connie) Dolezal, Las Vegas, Nev.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Evelyn was preceded in death by: her parents; an infant sister, Bernice Dorothy Dolezal; her brother, Eugene Dolezal, formerly of Tama, Iowa; her beloved daughter, Ann Pepple, formerly of Duluth, Minn.; and her dear grandson, Chris Rice, who had lived in Santa Barbara, Calif.
