The Give360 Color Dash 5k will be held at Roosevelt Park. Packet pickup is 9 a.m., with dash beginning at 10:30 a.m. The Color Dash 5k is an untimed, family-friendly run/walk to raise money for planning for a children's museum in Minot. Participants will experience a colorful, fun mess: Color Dashers will start in white t-shirts and get pelted with color explosions as they pass through five different color zones along the Roosevelt Park trail. At the finish, everyone will be covered in colors. Post-race activities will include additional color explosions, live music, dance contest, and more fun activities for participants and spectators. Registration is $40 for individuals, $35 for teams, and $85 for families. The event is hosted by Give360, a giving circle within the Minot Area Community Foundation. The Prairie Village Fair in Rugby features the Western Canadian Wheelwrights, beginning at 9 a.m. The concession stand opens at 11 a.m., with music by the Dakota Playboys and an art show featured in the afternoon. Gates close at 5 p.m. Admission is free for museum members.
The second annual Velva Volunteer Fire and Rescue Golf Tournament will be held at Star City Golf Course, north of Velva on N.D. Highway 41. Registration begins at 8 a.m. for the 10 a.m. shotgun start. Tournament is open to the public. Cost is $200 per four-man scramble team. Prizes will be awarded to top three places. The annual Festival on Main will be held this year on Saturday, Aug. 23, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Downtown Minot. The event is sponsored by the Downtown Business and Professional Association of Minot and Visit Minot and is free to the public. Daytime activities include the Northern Outlaw Wrestling wrestlers, sponsored in part by Coors Light, carnival and inflatable games, Dakota Cruisers car show, bingo, food and craft vendors, and Dizzy the Clown. There will be two historic Minot slide shows at the Taube Museum of Art along with children's activities, Minot Air Force Base K-9 dog demonstration, FunTyme Karaoke, dance and band performances, in-store events and sidewalk sales, and more. The Downtown Shuttle service will be available during the day. Booth spaces for vendors are still available and an application can be downloaded at (downtownminot.com). The evening fun follows with a street dance starting at 7 p.m. with local bands Guy & a Girl, followed by Soul Shine from 8:30 p.m. until 12:30 a.m. You must be 21 and older to attend, and the cost is $10. Surrey Senior Citizens will host a "Corn on the Cobb" feed to be held at the Surrey Activity Center on Friday, Aug. 22, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Menu is all the corn you can eat, plus smoked country sausage, baked beans, French bread, dessert, coffee and lemonade. Adults $10, children ages 6 to 12 $5, and under 6 are free.
The Minot Salvation Army is accepting applications for Back to School Supplies through Wednesday, Aug. 20, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Complete an application at The Salvation Army Church, 315 Western Ave., Minot. Bring identification of each child and proof of residence, along with report card, with you at the time of application.
