A female giraffe calf nuzzles her mother, Kianga, on Tuesday afternoon at the Roosevelt Park Zoo. The calf, the fifth baby born to giraffes Kianga and Mashama, was born on Saturday. She is currently unnamed. Zoo veterinarian Dr. Ann Olson said the calf was on display for the first time on Wednesday morning and might be on display for half days depending on the weather. The zoo donates some of the proceeds from its giraffe feeding station to Care for Karamoja, a South African program that works to support the conservation of the giraffe. Last year the zoo donated $3,000; this year Olson said the goal is to raise even more.
