Patricia DeMers, age 79, of Rolla, passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2014, at Parkview Assisted Living, Rolla.

Patricia Anne (Rice) DeMers was born to Charles and Ruth (Long) Rice on March 26, 1935, in Rolla. She was raised in Holmes Township, the oldest of six siblings. She married Averill "Spud" DeMers on Dec. 15, 1952, and together they had five children: Tim, Jean (John) Fleming, Lori Jo (Roland) Sollin, Nancy (Jack) Bryant, and Jeff (Dawn Crooks). She began her career as a housewife, then worked at Rolla Community Hospital as a nurses aide while obtaining her GED. She started her nursing career at St. Andrew's School of Nursing, Bottineau, in 1968, graduating from Trinity School of Nursing, Minot, in 1971. Patricia worked at Rolla Community Hospital until 1979 when she returned to school for her advanced practice degree. She then returned to Rolette County working as a school nurse at Belcourt and Ojibwa Schools from 1980-1985. In 1986 to the present, she worked at Tri-Care Home Health. During these years, she served in the State Legislature, was president of the North Dakota Lung Association, North Dakota Board of Nursing, Peace Garden Board of Directors, Turtle Mountain Tourism Board, 4-H leader, EMT/Ambulance Service in Rolla, and also served as an EMT instructor through Rolla Community Ambulance. A dream of hers became a reality when Parkview Assisted Living opened in 2000. She was their first administrator and nurse. As retirement was not an option, she began working as a nurse for Rolette County as a jail nurse. Some of her pleasures in life were her husband, children and grandchildren, along with her profession. She enjoyed gardening, reading, watching CSI and NCIS, traveling and spending time with her family and friends.

Patricia is survived by: her husband, Averill "Spud" DeMers of Rolla; daughters, Lori (Roland) Sollin of Lake Metigoshe, Nancy (Jack) Bryant of St. John, and Jean (John) Fleming of Lonsdale, Minn.; sons, Tim of Rolla and Jeff (Dawn Crooks) of Dunseith; eight grandchildren, Cal (Natasha) Tandeski, Charles Bryant, Jancy (Mark) Brisson, Patricia (Lance) Halvorson, Tiara (Shannon) Jans, Tyrel Sollin, Drew DeMers, and Averill DeMers; five great-grandchildren, Cassandra Tandeski, Kadence Tandeski, Bryant Jack Brisson, Tiernon Bryant, and Lane Halvorson; and her siblings, Jess Rice, Sharon Boppre, Judy Holum, Chuck Rice and Pam Rice.
