Minot Daily News

July 8, 1932 - July 22, 2014

Lucille C. Massine, 82, Minot, passed away quietly in her home after a long and courageous battle with ALS on Tuesday, July 22, 2014.

Lucille Catherine Brossart was born on July 8, 1932, to Nicholas and Magdalen (Voeller) Brossart. She was reared on a farm outside of Rugby where she helped with the many chores and the raising of her younger brothers and sisters. She attended a one-room country school near the farm. In the first few years, she was the only girl with 12 boys, including five of her brothers.

Lucille married Leonard Massine on Oct. 6, 1954, in Rugby, where they began their family. They lived for a short time in Garrison and Bottineau, before moving to Minot in 1963. Lucille was a full- time wife, mother and homemaker, who selflessly devoted her life to her children; especially advocating and dedicating her time for the care of her youngest daughter, Nadine.

Lucille was a member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church and its Confraternity of Christian Mothers. She enjoyed reading, gardening, playing cards, baking, sewing, cross-stitch and quilting. She lovingly made each grandchild a special quilt or blanket so they could feel her warm embrace no matter where they were. She had a fantastic memory and impeccable attention to detail. She loved spending time with family and friends, making these times special with her famous buns, cookies, caramel rolls, and chocolate slice bars.

Lucille's loving family includes: her children, Marilyn (Ken) Levadney, Minot, Michael (Donna) Massine, Larkspur, Colo., Sandra (John) Reiser, Minot, Steven (Carrie) Massine, Excelsior, Minn., Bradley (Wendy) Massine, West Jordan, Utah, Barbara (David) Johnson, Minot, Nancy (Steven) Bohl, Mandan, and Nadine Massine, Minot; 20 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers, Edward Brossart, Al Brossart, Nick Brossart Jr., all of Rugby; sisters, Viola Collins, Rugby, Ann Brossart, Minot, Betty Brossart, Devils Lake, Marcelle Brossart, San Leandro, Calif.; brothers-in-law, Claude Wolfe, Minot, and Jerry (Nancy) Andrews, Sioux Falls, S.D.; sisters-in-law, Joyce Brossart, Scottsdale, Ariz., and Marsha Brossart, Grand Forks; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
