NO FESTIVAL OF THE PARKS? Count us among those disappointed that Minot's annual Festival of the Parks wasn't held this year on the Fourth of July holiday. The yearly event has been a part of the city's tradition for years, as folks gathered in Roosevelt Park to listen to music, shop at booths set up by local vendors and enjoy a day at Roosevelt Park Zoo. The event has been part of Minot's Independence Day celebration for as long as we can remember, becoming as much a part of the holiday as fireworks. The group that organized the event, made up of volunteers, took this year off and is planning to reorganize sometime in the future. We understand the event took much planning, no doubt done by a small group of dedicated volunteers and perhaps part of the problem. Volunteers can quickly get burned out when tasked with the many details of planning an event like the Festival of the Park. We hope the group can reorganize in time for Independence Day 2015, with a host of new volunteers willing to put in the time necessary to again make Festival of the Parks a mainstay of Minot's Fourth of July celebration.
