Kathleen Mary Purdy, 72, Fargo, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, in a Fargo nursing home after a long and brave battle with breast cancer.
Kathleen was presented to this world on June 20, 1941, in Minot, as the first child of Pauline (Poppke) and Michael Purdy. She was raised in Minot until age 7, then in Williston through her sophomore year, then back to Minot where she attended St. Leo's and Bishop Ryan High School from which she graduated. Kathleen then attended three years at St. Mary's School of Nursing in Rochester, Minn., wherein she graduated as a registered nurse and worked for two years. At age 22 she left Rochester to attend Seattle University in Seattle, from which she graduated with a bachelor of science degree in nursing. She worked in Seattle as a degree nurse for a period, and then moved to Minnesota where she worked as a degree/registered nurse at various hospitals and nursing homes for the remainder of her working career which unfortunately ended in 1985 due to illness. In 1988 she moved from Minneapolis to Fargo to be close to her parents. She remained in Fargo until her recent death.
Kathleen will be deeply missed by: her siblings, Marlys (John) Dunlap, Fridley, Minn., Frances Behm, Minot, Michele (Edmond) Bergeron, Edina, Minn., William (Robin) Purdy, South St. Paul, Minn.; Aunt Irene (Poppke) Carter, Seattle; Uncle David and Aunt Delaine Poppke, Bismarck; Aunt Arlys Poppke, Bismarck; Uncle James N. Purdy, Bismarck; Uncle Dr. Paul A. Purdy, Minot; numerous nieces and nephews, and many other extended family relatives and friends.
Kathleen was preceded in death by: her parents, Pauline and Michael L. Purdy, and she will be interred beside them at Rosehill Memorial Park in Minot.
A funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at 3 p.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot. Burial will be in Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, and dinner will follow at the Royal Fork.
