Donald Reistad

Donald L. Reistad was born Sept. 26, 1928, in Crosby, to Cora (Raaum) and Olaf Reistad. He died Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital, Crosby, at the age of 85.

Donald was an active member of the Alkabo community, and Writing Rock Lutheran Church. He graduated from Alkabo High School in the Class of 1947. Activities included Luther League, and serving as a Bible camp counselor and with 4-H; and on the Westby Township Board, Alkabo Farmers Elevator Board and later on the Fortuna Farmers Elevator Board. He was instrumental in establishing the Westby Fire District. He was a member of the N.D. Stockmen's Association for 66 years. He was also a member of the Sons of Norway for 45 years, Divide County Historical Society, Borderline Car Club and the Scandinavian Heritage Association in Minot. He served in the Korean conflict, serving as a medic in a M.A.S.H. unit behind the front lines. He was a member of the Alvin T. Larson America Legion Post #116 at Grenora.

Family was always important to Don. He kept in phone contact with many, and made eight trips to Norway. We will all miss his upbeat spirit and smile.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; and two sisters, Ruth Elaine and Ellen Marie.

He is survived by: Ardis Antimuro, Westchester, Ill., Kenneth and Marlys Reistad, Faulkton, S.D., Harold Reistad, Esther and Ron Dahle, and David and Gloria Reistad, all of Alkabo; and Morris and Terri Reistad, Maplewood, Minn. He has many nieces and nephews, plus a multitude of friends.

Funeral services will be: Saturday, June 28, at 11 a.m. at Writing Rock Lutheran Church, in Alkabo, with Pastor Ron Dahle officiating.

Burial will follow: at Writing Rock Cemetery, Alkabo.

Visitation will be: Friday, from 3 to 7 p.m., at Stakston-Martin Funeral Home in Crosby, and also one hour before the service at the church.

Stakston-Martin Funeral Home of Crosby is in charge of arrangements.
