Swimming babies

These gadwall ducklings follow their mother as she swims towards cover, away from the camera. Gadwalls nest in grassland or light brush, laying up to a dozen eggs each year. With only three ducklings in tow, it is likely this gadwall’s clutch has been reduced by weather or predators. The photograph was taken near Douglas.
