United Way invites the public to participate in a community shower by dropping off baby items at the Dakota Square Mall between Barnes & Noble and the food court. From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., volunteers will collect baby items and other personal care items. Donation ideas include diapers, baby wipes, baby lotion, baby soap, shampoo, toothpaste and other personal care items. All donated items are distributed to local shelters and food pantries. Minot Air Force Base Fire Department's Relay for Life team will have a fundraiser sale at Taco John's, 920 N. Broadway, from 5 to 7 p.m. Mention the Relay for Life team and 50 percent of every purchase during those hours will be donated back to the organization.
Minot State University alumni and friends are invited to participate in the ninth annual Friend-raising Golf Tour stop in Rugby. Registration begins at 4:30 p.m. with a shotgun start at 5 p.m. A social will immediately follow completion of golf, estimated at about 7 p.m. Non-golfers are welcome to attend. MSU will recognize area students receiving 2014-15 scholarships at each event. The motto for the tour is "Golf One or Golf Them All." The 112th annual Hiddenwood Old Settlers Picnic will be held Sunday, June 22, at the Hiddenwood Lake Picnic Grounds, 8 miles south of Makoti on Ward County Road 9. An all-faiths church service will begin at 11 a.m., with a potluck picnic to follow. Plates and utensils will be provided. A program, door prizes and games for kids will also be featured. Homemade pie and coffee will be sold starting at 4 p.m.
Staples is searching for parents, teens and customers of all ages to showcase their excitement for low back-to-school prices with the shopping cart dance. Winners will appear in Staples national back-to-school television ad campaign. Parents, teens, kids and grandparents can enter Staples' Make 15 Seconds of Fame Happen contest at (staples.com/shoppingcartdance). Contest entrants will need to download the song, create a video doing the shopping cart dance, fill out an entry form and upload their video. One upload per person, per day.
