Shayla Marie Burau, 38, Miles City, Mont., formerly of Columbus, died June 8, 2014.
Shayla was born in Casper, Wyo., Aug. 18, 1975. Shayla attended kindergarten in Casper and then with her sister Nicole and mother Jude, moved back to the family farm south of Columbus to live with her grandparents. Shayla attended the remainder of her school years in Columbus, graduating in 1993. Shayla enjoyed sports and hanging out with her many friends. Shayla was voted most popular classmate her senior year at Columbus.
After high school, Shayla attended Williston State College for a time before moving to Crosby, where she became a CNA, certified nursing assistant, at the Crosby Good Samaritan Center. Shayla also worked as a CNA in Minot and Fargo. Shayla was married for a time and to that union a daughter, Hailey, was born. Hailey resides in Minot at the REM Center. Shayla was currently living in Miles City, Mont., where she was volunteering at CNADA, a supportive group for abused family members.
Shayla was survived by her daughter, Hailey, Minot; parents, Thomas and Jude Burau, Columbus; sister, Nicole (Curtis) Peterson, Bismarck; nieces, Kiera and Savaya Peterson, Bismarck; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Shayla was preceded in death by her grandparents Melvin and Gladys Gilbertson, Gordon and Idella Burau, Harriet Burau and Aunt Lynette Goldal.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. today, Friday, June 13, 2014, at Zion Lutheran Church near Noonan.
