Inez Irene Leonard-Carlson, 87, Minot, died Monday, June 9, 2014, in a Minot hospital.

Inez was born Feb. 7, 1927, in Big Stone County, Minn., the daughter of Oscar and Hattie Mae (Allen) Lundgren. She was raised and educated at Big Stone, Minn., and united in marriage to Donal Leonard on Feb. 14, 1947, at Correll, Minn.

They made their home on a farm near Big Stone for several years and then moved to Hot Springs, S.D., and later to Rapid City, S.D., before moving to Minot in 1963. In addition to raising their children, Inez was employed with Minot State University, Investors Management & Marketing Properties and most recently for the Minot Housing Authority at the Milton Young Towers. Donal died Oct. 1, 1971. Inez was united in marriage to Edwin O. Carlson on Sept. 19, 1992. He died Nov. 22, 1994.

Inez was an active member of Faith United Methodist Church, Minot. She had also become a licensed local lay minister and performed countless services at the Ward County Jail in Minot on weekends. She was active in the community with a number of Bible studies and prayer groups throughout the years. She enjoyed her collection of butterflies and angels. She loved spending time with her family.

Her loving family includes: children, Monica (Keith) Miller, Fargo, Randal Leonard, Columbus, Ohio, and Tom (Pam) Leonard, Minot; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Inez was preceded in death by: her parents; husbands, Donal and Edwin; son, Ronal; and two brothers.

Funeral service: Thursday, June 12, at 11 a.m., in Faith United Methodist Church, Minot.

Interment: Saturday, June 14, in Mound Cemetery, Ortonville, Minn.

Visitation: Today, Wednesday, from 4 to 7 p.m., in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.

Memorials are preferred to the Minot Jail Ministry or Minot Youth for Christ.
