The American Bass Anglers’ second tournament of the season was captured by Dick Roland. The Crosby angler bested the field at New Johns Lake June 1 with a three bass limit, a combination of two largemouth and one smallmouth, weighing 10.08 pounds. Cory Bosh, Mandan, was second with 9.3 pounds of fish. Third was taken by Cody Arth, Bismarck, with 9.17 pounds. Wes Babtiste, Minot AFB, tied Roland for big bass honors with a 3.85-pound largemouth. “In pre-fishing the day before, I went looking specifically for the largemouth beds because if you can find them they are going to win you the tournament,” said Roland. Roland said he caught his three bass on a top-water Zara spook. He won $279 for his effort. The ABA’s next event is scheduled for Lake Audubon June 21.
