Shirley K. Peery, 76, Minot, passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2014, in a Minot hospital, with her family by her side.
Shirley Kathleen Nelson was born April 22, 1938, a daughter of Elvin Roy and Olga Josephine (Rusten) Nelson in Ryder. When she was 3 years old the family moved to Parshall where she was raised and educated, graduating from Parshall High School in 1956.
Shirley was united in marriage to Wayne W. Peery on July 22, 1956, in Parshall. Together they owned and operated Wayne's Friendly Service, a Mobile gas station in Parshall. While in Parshall, Shirley was a member of the Parshall Jaycees, friendship club and ladies circle.
In 1967, the family moved to Bismarck, where she was secretary of the Mrs. Jaycees in Bismarck. They lived in Bismarck for three years before returning to Parshall for a time. In July 1974, the family moved to Minot, where Shirley volunteered for the Red Cross during the flood scare of 1974 and was an active member of the Mental Health Association in Minot for one year. They remained in Minot. Wayne passed away on Dec. 23, 2012.
Shirley was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Minot, and several local groups including a homemakers club, Red Hat ladies group and Skyline Ladies birthday club. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be greatly missed.
Shirley is survived by: four children, David Allen (Deborah) Peery, Todd Jeffrey (Agnes) Peery, Linda Marie (Tracy) Boggs and Lisa Kay (fiance, John Bezek) Pierce; grandchildren, Heather (Robert) Rakness, Brittany Peery, Kevin (Nicole) Peery, Tina (companion, Jesse) Peery, Melissa (Joshua) Reichenbach, Daniel Pierce, Harrison Roman, Magdalena Del a torre and Timothy Boggs; and one great-grandchild, Jordyn Ann Peery; stepgreat-grandchildren, Jacob Laudato and Ian and Madelyn Herman.
Shirley was preceded in death by: her husband of 56 years, Wayne.
Funeral service: Saturday, June 7, 10:30 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church, Minot.
Graveside service: Saturday, 1 p.m., at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.
Visitation: Today, Friday, June 6, from 3 to 7 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
