Steven McLister has been named publisher of The Minot Daily News. Previously with Forum Communications Co. in Fargo, he brings 24 years of newspaper management experience to the News.
He replaces Steve Herron, who had served as publisher since May 2010.
McLister, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, began his career in 1979 in advertising, stepping away from the industry for several years to work in the grocery business before eventually returning. He transitioned from advertising to publishing in 1993 when he assumed the leadership position in Mitchell, S.D., for Thomson Newspapers. Forum Communications acquired the Mitchell newspaper in September 1995.
Forum Communications promoted McLister to publisher in Willmar, Minn. He became general manager of the Forum of Fargo-Moorhead from July 2000 to July 2007 and later was named to oversee the Forum's Duluth News Group.
He returned to Fargo in March 2009 as vice president of newspapers, a position in which he supervised the publishers of Forum Communication's 34 publications.
Joining Ogden Newspapers and The Minot Daily News is an opportunity to return to a hands-on role in publishing, McLister said.
"I am very passionate about this business," he said. "I welcome the opportunity to serve our readers and residents of Minot and the area. My goal and my pledge is to make this newspaper the best that it can possibly be for our readers and our residents. I happen to personally believe the health and strength of any community is rooted in its daily newspaper."
