John Chickosky, 87, Garrison, died on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at his home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 17, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Garrison. A rosary will be said today, May 16, at 7 p.m. at the church. Burial will be at St. Nicholas Cemetery in Garrison.
There will be no reviewal, but family and friend may sign a register today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church.
John W. Chickosky was born near Bowman on Aug. 29, 1926, to John and Elizabeth Chickosky. He graduated from Wilton High School and joined the Navy. He served in the Pacific on the USS Jason.
Following his discharge, John went to work as a drag line operator at the Truax Mine east of Garrison. When the mine closed, he went to work for the Garrison Memorial Hospital in the maintenance department.
John married Florence Blanchard on Sept. 19, 1970. They resided on a farm west of Garrison until moving into Garrison in 1994. Florence died in June 2007. John continued living in their home in Garrison until the time of his death.
John is survived by: one stepson, Glen (Donna) Blanchard, Kindred; one stepdaughter, Joyce (Tom) Gross, Jamestown; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Florence; several siblings and one great-grandson.
