Doren Albert Dannewitz, 65, passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2014. A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 16, 2014, at 10 a.m. at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, south of Mandan. A gathering will be held at DaWise-Perry Funeral Services in Mandan following the burial service.
Doren was born Jan. 6, 1949, in Minot, to David and Charlotte (Lundhagen) Dannewitz. He attended Tioga High School through his junior year and then graduated from Minot High School in 1967. He attended Minot State University before being drafted. Following service in the Vietnam War for the United States Army, he completed a degree in Geology from Minot State University.
He lived in Williston, N.D., and worked as a geologist for the North Dakota Oil and Gas Division. In 1981 he relocated to Bismarck, where he continued to work for the Oil and Gas Division. He participated in the Petroleum Club in Bismarck. Also, during his time in Williston he was active with the Drum and Bugle Corps playing the trumpet. Doren enjoyed staying physically active through jogging, downhill skiing and dancing.
Doren is survived by: his daughter, Holly Dannewitz, Grand Forks; his twin brother, Duane Dannewitz, Ellendale; his sister, Darlene (Harold) Haugstad, Hawley, Minn., and younger brother, Dale (Laurie) Dannewitz, Minot; six nieces and nephews, Jason Ness, Alicia Said, Kristen McGinnis, Amber Dannewitz, Kyle Haugstad and David Dannewitz.
