Della Mae (Lowe) Van Eeckhout, 95, longtime Minot resident, died Wednesday, May 7, 2014, in a Minot nursing care facility.
Della Mae was born on March 9, 1919, in Minot, a daughter of Albert and Pearl (Dopp) Lowe. She was reared and educated in Minot, graduating from Minot High School in 1936. Following her graduation from high school, she helped her father in the operation of Lowe's Grocery. In the fall of 1936, she enrolled in the Trinity Hospital School of Nursing and completed her training and nursing degree. After graduating from nursing school, Della Mae moved to Seattle to practice nursing. She later returned to Minot.
Della Mae married George Van Eeckhout on July 2, 1943, and they were lifelong residents of Minot. In 1972, Della Mae returned to nursing at Trinity Hospital until her retirement in 1989. George died on Jan. 23, 2002.
Della Mae was a longtime member of the Minot Art Club and Little Flower Catholic Church in Minot. She especially enjoyed gardening, cooking, crocheting, knitting and reading.
Della Mae's loving family includes: her three children, sons, John P. Van Eeckhout and his wife Carol Kemper, of Kansas City, Mo., and James L. VanEeckhout of Minot, and her daughter, Margaret J. Van Eeckhout and her friend Rick A. Christianson, St. Paul, Minn.; one sister, Betty Aga of Minot; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband George; and brothers, Phil, Jim and Bob Lowe.
Memorial Service: Thursday, May 15, at 10 a.m. at Trinity Homes, Minot.
There will be no reviewal but friends may sign a guest register Thursday, one hour prior to the service, at Trinity Homes, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the Minot Art Club or to the Alzheimer's Association.
