Amie Torgerson

Amie Lorraine Torgerson, 85, Powers Lake, passed away April 7, 2014, at Mountrail Bethel Home in Stanley. A funeral service will be held Friday, April 11, at 2 p.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Powers Lake, with Pastor Cole Bentley officiating. Visitation will be today, April 10, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Springan Funeral Home in Stanley. Burial will be at Bethel Lutheran Cemetery, Battleview.

Amie was born Jan. 15, 1929, to Helga and Ole Hoiby. She grew up on the family farm in the McGregor area. She attended country school, then in Battleview, through the eighth grade. She then attended McGregor High School and graduated on June 1, 1945, at the age of 16.

She married the love of her life, Clinton Torgerson, on April 5, 1949. They were blessed parents of three sons, Cary, Alten, and Roger. The family was kept busy farming, raising beef cattle and milking cows on their farm in the McGregor area. She enjoyed the farm life, working as her husband's partner in the farm operation.

Amie and Clinton retired in 1978 and built a new house in Powers Lake and lived there the remainder of their lives.

They transferred their membership from Zion Lutheran Church in McGregor to Holy Cross Church in Powers Lake in 1986. Amie enjoyed serving in several church and WELCA positions. Amie was also an active member of the Civic Club and served as the "Sunshine Lady" for 20 years. They also enjoyed volunteering and being active members of the Powers Lake Senior Citizen Club.

Clinton and Amie were married for more than 58 years with special celebrations for their silver and golden wedding anniversaries. Clinton passed away Dec. 11, 2007. Amie continued to live in her home until moving to Mountrail Bethel Home in Stanley on July 11, 2013.

Amie is survived by: her sons, Roger (Stefanie), Bismarck, Alten (Christie), Sanborn, and Cary, of Ray; grandkids, Sheila, Julie, Steven, Michelle, Brett, Ashley, Aubrey, Marc, Eric, Lucas and Adam; great-grandkids, Molly, Meghan Lorraine, Aryn, Jakob, MaKayla, Maleah, Gavin, Lillian, Elijah, Ashley, Krista, Dyllon, Megan, Matthew, Jeffery and Amanda; great-great grandkids, Braeden and Bennett; and brother, Lawrence (Carol) Hoiby, of Stanley.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Helga and Ole; husband, Clinton; sisters, Alice, Alma and Hazel; brother, Guy; daughter-in-law, Colleen Torgerson; and great-grandson, Justin.
