Voters in Kenmare said no Tuesday to a $7.5 million bond issue.
There were 243 yes votes and 186 no votes. There were 56.5 percent votes in favor of the measure, but state law requires 60 percent or greater approval for a bond issue to pass.
The bond issue would have funded construction of a new gymnasium, a five classroom addition and a new vocational agricultural classroom area. The cost to taxpayers would have been be an additional $150 per year on a $100,000 home or a quarter of land, according to business manager Renae Murphy. Murphy said she doubts that another bond issue will be held in the near future.
