Minot's two legislative districts holding elections this fall will have a full slate of candidates running for the North Dakota Senate and House.
In Minot's District 5, the Democratic ticket features Bill Klimpel for Senate and Heidi Rintoul, who also ran in 2010, and Judy Vendsel for the House. They will challenge incumbent Republicans Sen. Randy Burckhard and Reps. Roger Brabandt and Scott Louser.
In District 3, incumbent Republicans Sen. Oley Larsen and Rep. Andrew Maragos and Roscoe Streyle face challenges from former Democratic state representative Lisa Wolf for the Senate and Lee Snyder and Cindy Wilhelm for the House.
Nine of the 24 odd-numbered districts fielding candidates this year lack enough candidates to fill out their Republican or Democratic tickets, while four districts will have party races in the June 10 primary.
In Williston, only two Democrats filed in District 1, but there will be a race in the Republican column in the primary. T.J. Corcoran, an attorney, is challenging incumbent state representatives Patrick Hatlestad and Gary Sukut. Republican Brad Bekkedahl filed for the Senate seat held by Stan Lyson, R-Williston, who did not seek re-election.
Democrat candidates are Barbara Vondell for the Senate and Joseph Adducci for the House. No Democrat filed for the other House seat.
District 19 in northeastern North Dakota and District 25 in southeastern North Dakota have three-way races in their Republican columns for the House. District 41 in Fargo, currently represented by Republicans, has a three-way race on the Democratic ticket for the House.
Three districts have only Republicans running. Two districts have only Democrats running, including District 9, a Democratic stronghold where incumbents Sen. Richard Marcellais of Belcourt and Reps. Tracy Boe of Mylo and Marvin Nelson of Rolla will be on the ballot again.
Area candidates are running in District 39, where incumbent Republicans Sen. Bill Bowman and Rep. Keith Kempenich, both of Bowman, are seeking re-election. Republican Denton Zubke of Watford City is running for the seat held by Rep. David Drovdal. Democrats are Stephanie Pretzer of Scranton for the Senate and Greg Tank of Keene and Maddison Voigt of Killdeer for the House.
